Moon Rituals

The moon has always intrigued humankind. The moon feels mysterious and gentle and is associated with Divine Feminine energy. Because the Divine Feminine is making its presence known again in the world, it seemed like a good time to talk about working with energies of the moon in the form of a moon ritual.

A moon ritual doesn’t have to be complicated. Here is a simple one that I do during the New and Full moons. New moons are about manifesting new things in your life while the Full moon is a great time to let things go – to make room for those new things, of course!

Here’s what you’ll need:

• Candle (preferably white)
• Lighter or matches
• Plain white paper
• Pen or pencil
• Glass dish or ash tray

And here are the steps:

• Start by thinking about what you want to manifest if it’s a New Moon or release if it’s a Full Moon. Grab the piece of white paper and right down your list. The paper doesn’t have to be big nor the list long.
• Take your candle, lighter, completed list and dish outside.
• Light the candle and request a bubble of white light protection.
• Offer up whatever prayer you would like to do. I give thanks to the Divine (God) and even call in Auriel, the Angel of the Moon, to be with me.
• Read your list aloud under the moon’s energy.
• Take the paper and light it on fire from the candle. I usually loosely roll the paper so it will burn.
• Place the paper in the dish and let it burn until it is ashes. Help it along as needed.
• When the paper is burned and has stopped smoking, add some water to quench any embers and then return the wet ashes to the earth. I put mine in our grass.
• Finally, express your gratitude in whatever way resonates with you and extinguish the candle.

​That’s it. As you can see it is very simple. It is also very effective if you take the time to put energy, intention and gratitude into it. You can keep it as simple as this or add steps as you feel drawn to do so.  I hope you get a chance to try this moon ritual for yourself at the next New or Full Moon.
