Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. As an adult I try and make it a special night for the kids by taking the time to decorate my home for their delight. It is quite a bit of work, but the looks on their faces and their excitement makes it all worthwhile.
The name Halloween is said to come from the name All Hallow's Eve. The celebration itself is said to have originated from the Celtic tradition of Samhain when people would gather around a bonfire and wear costumes to scare away ghosts. Pope Gregory III declared November 1 as All Saint's Day and Oct. 31 therefore became All Hallow's Eve. Over the years the holiday has evolved to include carving pumpkins and having children dressing up in costumes to get candy.
For those of us who are interested in the metaphysical world, we know that this time of year is when the veil between our world and Spirit has thinned. It means that we may receive messages or signs from our loved ones. Some people are very sensitive to the energy during this time, especially those that are sensitive to lunar energy.
Although I enjoy the Spirit side of Halloween, I still love the celebration and decorating for the kids the most. However you spend Halloween, I hope it is a good evening for you.
